Millions of years ago the Yucatan Peninsula was covered by the sea.

Today there is an incredible clear freshwater underground river system of caverns and caves. The Mayans knew these mysterious and magic places as CENOTES.

At one time, Cenotes were the only source of fresh water for the Mayans; they were considered a gift of GOD CHAK, their God of water.

Part of the Chac Mool system in the Mayan Riviera, the entrance is a couple of hundred feet away from Cenote Chac Mool. Access to the Kukulkan cenote is through a beautiful pond at one end of the cenote.

 

Chikin Ha cenote

Located approximately 25 km from Playa del Carmen, Chikin Ha cenote is the first cenote in a system that connects several cenotes through more than 10 km of undenivater passages.

 

Cenote Tajma Ha

This cenote, which has much to offer for both cavern and cave divers, is situated 26 km south of Playa del Carmen and 5 km south of Puerto Aventuras Hotels zone.

 

Cenote Dos Ojos Bat Cave

The Bat Cave dive is the darker of the two ddives in the system "Dos Ojos".

 

Cenote Aktun Ha

Better known as "Car Wash", it is no longer used for washing taxis. Aktun Ha cenote is situated 8 km outside of Tulum on the road to Coba.

 

Cenote Calavera

Cenote Calavera, which means "Skull Cave" is also known as "Temple of Doom".

 

Chac Mool cenote

The entrance to this cenote is about 100 m south of Puerto Aventuras. There are two water entries to Chac-Mool cenote, both leading into the same rooms. The first room is relatively large with much light entering from the opening.

 

Cenote el Eden

Also known as Ponderosa, Cenote Eden is situated 3 km south of Puerto Aventuras and 25 km south of Playa del Carmen.

 

Cenote Dos Ojos

The entrance to this popular and famous cenote is situated one kilometer south of Xel Ha and roughly 48 km south of Playa del Carmen.

Casa Cenote connects one of‘ the longest undenzvater cave systems in the world, Nohbchgla Chiqh with the ocean.

 

Cenote Grande

The name says it all... Gran Cenote is considered one ofthe best for snorkeling, cave and cavern diving in the Mayan Riviera.

 

Cenote Angelita

Angelita, "little angel" in English, is not only an atypical cenote dive, but a once in a lifetime dive in all respects.  Situated 17 km south of Tulum, it is the furthest site visited from Playa del Carmen.
